Executive Director
Rosemary Williams
Rose Williams is a visionary public health advocate and the Executive Director of Big Mama’s
Safehouse, a grassroots nonprofit serving San Antonio’s most underserved neighborhoods. With a
deep commitment to advancing public health and public safety, Rose leads transformative efforts
that address community trauma, reduce violence, and build systems of care for families impacted
by adversity.
Rose brings lived experience growing up in a domestic violence and trauma-informed leadership to
every aspect of her work. She has built Big Mama’s Safehouse into a trusted community anchor—
providing mental health services, family violence prevention, youth enrichment, and citywide
outreach focused on gun safety, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and healing-centered care.
Under her leadership, the organization has prioritized public safety by launching education
campaigns, hosting resource fairs, and collaborating with hospitals and numerous organizations to
create safer environments for children and families. At the same time, Rose drives public health
impact through culturally responsive wellness programming, support for survivors, and wraparound
services that meet people where they are.
Rose is also a Community Health Worker and respected coalition-builder who believes that
community-led solutions are key to long-term change. She convenes partners across health care,
education, and grassroots sectors to reduce health disparities and prevent violence before it starts.
Guided by her faith and commitment to justice, Rose is on a mission to strengthen families, save
lives, and transform systems—so that every person in every zip code can live with dignity, safety,
and hope.
